Langsford St, Claremont 2019

A substantial extension to a heritage listed residence that forms part of an established heritage streetscape. The extension has been designed to tuck into the visual shadow behind the existing residence, thus not affecting the look of the existing residence and streetscape. Designed around a north facing courtyard and pool, the brief also called for a large workshop and new living, dining and kitchen as well as multiple new bedroom spaces. This is essentially a ‘small block’ design given the minimal site area available beyond the existing residence.

Therefore emphasis is on open spaces, maximizing natural light and volume along with strong relationship to external areas. Use of timber flooring/linings and recycled brick will continue the external material palette from the existing residence . This will be combined with painted timber windows, weatherboards to provide texture to the new work. Completed, awaiting photography.
