Ashley Terrace, Dawesville 2005

Built on a 830m² steeply sloping block, this dramatic residence has a form based around a 'butterfly' roof structure. This building form arose from the client's desire to maximize the floor height (to take in the extensive views of the Dawesville estuary) whilst staying under council height restrictions. This residence is an 'upside down' house with the living areas on the top floor orientated towards the views over a large outdoor deck.

Windows to the west (street) are minimized to reduce harsh afternoon sun and louvre windows allow cooling south westerly windows to permeate the house. Materials and colours respect the immediate waterfront natural environment with limestone, colorbond cladding and painted render dominating.
