John Farrant Drive, Gooseberry Hill 2017

A large 10,000m² sloping site in the hills with an extensive city and bush panorama to the west and south. The plan was conceived as two wings with entry thru the space naturally occurring between the two wings. From the entry at the centre, the plan pivots apart to frame southern vistas to bushland which then contrast with a western view overlooking the pool towards the city.

The living room sits in the optimal position to take in all bush and city views aided by substantial shaded glazing. All major internal spaces orientate to the pool and alfresco which in turn look towards the city views. Building forms are designed to suit the rural setting with variously scaled pavilions and pitched roof creating hierarchy with-in the building form. Materials are designed to suit the rural setting and consist of robust face bricks, weatherboards and render.
