Kalgoorlie St, Mount Hawthorn 2022

A challenging sloping tight site of 498m² with a relatively narrow 12.1m frontage. Designed for a local family with young children. Planned around a north facing courtyard, lawn and pool. The house extends internal and external sight lines to provide and sense of space, light and volume beyond the expectations of the site size.

Bedrooms and minor living areas are on the upper level, leaving major internal and external spaces to be open plan and oriented to the northern courtyard. Pitched steel portals to the dominant roof forms interpret the traditional roof forms in the street whist maintaining a contemporary context. Black steel details, Face brick, timber lining provide texture and balance with porcelain tiled floors and extensive glazing.
