A single storey extension to a heritage listed workers cottage with-in a heritage precinct on a 500m² sloping site. This project is for a repeat client who are now ‘right sizing’ into a light filled courtyard home designed for an active retirement. The original 4 room workers cottage will be restored and house accommodation for visiting family and friends. The single level extension, with a separate entrance, contains all main living spaces and master bedroom wrapped around a central north facing courtyard. Raking ceilings to the main living/kitchen spaces enable highlite windows to capture the northern light.
The traditional building forms of the original cottage are juxtaposed with the flowing contemporary forms of the extension. White off form concrete curves thru entry, dining and alfresco spaces. Face brickwork and timber provides a texturally counterpoint to the solid concrete forms. Expected completion: Late 2024
