St Leonards Ave, West Leederville 2007

Two substantial houses on challenging 7.5m wide, 306m² sites, with a heavy gradient. The houses have been dug into the site at the street, thus lowering the scale of the houses to respect the single story heritage streetscape in which the project sits. Entry is across a bridge that hovers over a sunken courtyard.

The traditional hipped and gable roof forms satisfy council streetscape requirements. These forms are layered with more contemporary materials and details to provide a sophisticated aesthetic that does not mimic neighbours but still resides comfortably beside them.
